Difference between “firestop” and “flame arrestor”
A door assembly can be declared a « flame arrester »if: The assembly remains flame-tight (prohibition of the passage of flames regardless of the location of the door assembly). A door set can be declared “fire-rated”if:
- The whole thing remains flame-tight.
- The whole thing insulates thermally (clearly different temperatures on both sides of the door.)
Example: A door unit made of a simple sheet of steel, perhaps « FLAME-PROOF » because it prevents the propagation of flames, but it will not be « FIRE-RESISTANT » because the temperature on each side of the door experiences the same rise.
